Mandaue Foam All Out August Sale!

Sale Alert!

When Mon and I first found out we're pregnant with Lex, one of the first things we bought for the baby is a chest of drawers. Our first stop is, of course, the department store. We looked through each and every chest, assessed the quality of the material used and most importantly, checked if the prices are within our budget. There's one chest we really liked, but it's priced at more than 10k! For some reason, we just can't make ourselves spend more than 10k for a wooden chest.

Enter Mandaue Foam. I first heard of Mandaue Foam through one of the blogs I follow. I read that they sell quality but affordable furniture there. I checked if they have a showroom within or near Quezon City and lo and behold, there's one in Quezon Avenue! Perfect!

To cut the story short, we finally got to buy a wooden chest for the baby at a very reasonable price. How reasonable you ask? Less than half the price of the chest we saw at the department store! And you know what else? The chest we got at Mandaue Foam and the chest we saw at the department store looks EXACTLY the same! No kidding!

Last weekend, Mon and I were searching for the perfect table, which is supposed to serve as our blogging and gaming table. We did not bother going to the department store this time since we know that whatever price the department store can offer, Mandaue Foam can beat in a sec. I set the budget at 2k for a table.

Imagine our surprise when we got to Mandaue Foam and saw this:

I started palpitating. Haha! Kidding.

So again, to cut the story short, we were able to buy not only a table but also a chair to go with it! You know why? Because the table we got cost us only 805 bucks! We had spare budget for a chair and so we got one too! Total wallet damage: 1,925 only.

Here's the good news, Mandaue Foam All Out August Sale is until September 8, 2014. Which means you still have time to go over there and purchase the perfect furniture you want at a discounted price.

Here are pictures I took at the Q. Ave Showroom, just in case you haven't been in Mandaue Foam before and you're wondering what exactly you can find there:

Chairs and Dining Tables

Wardrobes and Dressers and Full Length Mirrors

For the kids' rooms! Bean Bags, Kiddie Kitchenette, Beds, and Shelves

Bed Frames

More Dining Tables

Shelves and Console Tables

Outdoor Furniture

Sofa Sets

Home Accessories

Curtains and Bed Linens

These are not the only items in Mandaue Foam. They also sell lightings, bed mattresses, basta everything about the home!

And because I am a huge fan of Mandaue Foam, you can even consider me a suki as we have bought other home stuff there, I found a great deal in becoming a Home Card Member, which entitles me to 10% discount on all regular items, cash and card purchases!

I became a member last March when we bought a sofa from Mandaue Foam.

I'm baaack!

Miss ko nang magblog!

Believe me when I tell you that I have been thinking about blogging many times during the last few months but I just didn't have the time motivation to pick up my computer and actually do it.

Plus! Mon has been using my Mac for his programming needs so I'm stuck with his Asus which I absolutely dislike using. Ok, that's a lame reason, I know, I know!

Not to mention, there is no space in the house that is conducive enough for blogging. Erm...

In conclusion, I have no real excuse for not blogging. Hehe. I'm just tired and lazy and I lack sleep. I'm also fairly new to this whole motherhood business and I'm still at that stage where I'm struggling to juggle everything on my plate. I just had to take time off to find my groove back.

Me logging in to my blogger account is actually a big step. Congratulations to me! I deserve a pat on the back. Mwaha.

Updates!

Ze bebe is three months old today. Yey! Yes, it's been three months since Lex was born and in those three short months, so much growing up has happened in our little family! Literally and figuratively. Basta all I can say is that (responsible) parenthood is not something that a couple can just trudge into and expect that it's all going to be a walk in the park. No. It is difficult as it is glorious.

The first three months was extremely difficult. I had suffered from postpartum depression and as I have only begun exploring the fascinating (and exhausting) world of motherhood, I also had to learn and unlearn so many different things. Being a mother is like being in a whole new universe. And one will not understand nor appreciate that statement until one becomes a mother herself. Kasi it's not just taking care of the child e. It's the child plus everything that goes with it: managing the in-laws, managing the yaya, managing time for yourself and the expectations of the husband, managing work (if you work full time), managing the finances, managing social responsibilities.. so many things diba!? And a mother does all that while trying her damn hardest to function with zero sleep.

I admit that I couldn't have done so well during Lex's first months without my very supportive and helpful husband. More than any other time in my life, it was in those months that I realized na I really chose my husband well. I am very lucky to have him by my side as we raise our son in this world.

That's it muna for now! Ang dami pang naka-line up na topics to blog about. Stay tuned!

First purchase for the baby!

I'm exactly 18w5d today and already Mon and I have started looking for baby things! Excited much lang? Hehe. Better early than late, baka naman ang laki na ng tiyan ko saka pa kami mag-start eh wala pa naman kaming ka-alam alam sa mga kagamitan ng baby. Serious! We're both the youngest in the family so we have never experienced taking care of a younger sibling. Tapos hindi pa ako mahilig sa bata. Si Mon naman, while he likes kids, yung pagka-like niya is limited to playing with them lang. Haha! We have never tried changing a baby's nappy or putting a baby to sleep or kahit magtimpla man lang ng gatas. So how ever will we raise this little sweetheart? We'll need plenty of education and practice!

I received Dotty's very first baby item a few weeks ago. A cousin from the States oh-so-kindly sent me 4 pcs. of receiving blankets. Confession: nung time na yun, I didn't really know what a receiving blanket is. Ang alam ko lang, kailangan ko siya dahil kasama siya sa Baby Checklist ng Baby Company. Haha! Actually hanggang ngayon, hindi pa rin ako sure kung ano yun pero I'm guessing na yun yung cloth na ginagamit to wrap a newborn baby?

According to wiktionary, a receiving blanket is a lightweight blanket that is wrapped around or placed under a partially or fully nude baby for warmth and hygiene. So yun nga yun. :)

Then last week, my sister sent me her kids' old baby clothes. Lots and lots of white tops and light pants. I'm guessing na mga pambahay and pantulog yung mga yun. So now I have a large paperbag full of baby clothes lying around the room.

I generally don't like clutter. I grew up in a very clean home (as in my mom cleans the whole house every single day! I swear, pwede kang humiga sa sahig sa sobrang linis.) which is why clutter irritates me to no end! Especially pag araw araw kong nakikita (i.e. clutter inside the room), inis na inis talaga ako. And so because of that, we decided to buy Dotty his/her own chest of drawers for his/her stuff!

I know a chest is not a very "baby" thing but at this point, it's what he/she needs! It's to be delivered next week at excited na akong ligpitin ang mga gamit ni Dot-dot sa drawer niya.

We got Dot-dot's chest at Mandaue Foam.
For those on a budget, masarap mag-shopping dun kasi their prices are very reasonable.

We've been looking at cribs and strollers recently but we can't actually buy one until we know the gender. We saw a crib we liked at SM Makati one time but the color combination is Teal and White. It's actually unisex but Mon and I agreed that the color is too girly for a boy. So, next time.

UPDATE 09/07/13: The chest was finally delivered last week and this is how it looks like.

A TEMPURfect day!

A few weeks back, I was craving for Wicked Macaroni and Cheese from Mr. Jones. Fast forward to yesterday, Mon finally accepted my request to go to Makati on a weekend! Yiiiiiiihhh, kilig!!

You see, on weekends, we don't usually stray far from where we live. Nakakapagod. We figure that time spent driving can be used to rest or sleep instead. And weekends are very sacred to both of us. It's our time to relax and recharge for another full week ahead. If we must go out on a weekend due to a need or just plain boredom, we make it a point to go somewhere near lang.

Since it's a long weekend naman and we had enough rest last Friday, he agreed to go to Makati with me. Aside from Mr. Jones, we also had other errands to do there.

Because we were both Greenbelt "virgins", we didn't know that the stores open there at 11am pala! The only store we saw that opened before 11am is The Body Shop, which is fortunate because I've been meaning to buy moisturising sticks for my pregnant tummy. I ran out and the moisturising stick I need was out-of-stock in all The Body Shops I've been to (SM Makati and Glorietta branches). So nagpaka-Ariel na ako and hoarded. These were the last three stocks they had.

Without anything to do after, nag-OOTD na lang!

At 17 weeks!

We ate lunch at Mr. Jones. What we ate:

Mr Jones
From top left clockwise: Frozen Iced Tea & Lemonade in Grape,
Wicked Macaroni and Cheese,
A&W Rootbeer Float, Mr. Jones Overload with Glazed Pineapple Spam

I loved the Frozen Iced Tea & Lemonade, all else, steady lang. I mean, under normal circumstances, I would have really loved the Mac & Cheese... Favorite ko kaya yun sobra before! And I still recommend it to anyone who asks but I think my pregnant taste buds did not take a liking to it as much as my normal taste buds did. But still, it was worth the wait.

After lunch, we went to the Tempur Showroom to buy a pillow. Ohmygosh, pillow-buying has never been this enjoyable! It was a different experience altogether. Tempur has different kinds of specialized pillows, depending on how you sleep: back, side, or tummy. I'm a back and side-sleeper so we tried out pillows that are perfect for back and side-sleeping. That would be the Symphony and the Sonata. We also tried out another pillow, the Cloud, just because ang sarap niyang hawakan. Ang lambot kasi! Hehe.

After choosing our desired pillow/s, we were ushered into a private room where we can try it out. The room has a bed (with a Tempur mattress and topper) with two side lamps and a table to place our things on. Bedroom setting talaga.

The actual pillow test.

Upper Frames: Symphony
Lower Left: Cloud
Lower Right: Sonata

What I loved about the whole experience, aside from the pillow test, was the service. No unnecessary sales talk, only helpful information. They had recommendations but not once did I feel that they were insistent. And they literally left us alone in the private room, no matter how long it took for us to decide. We were in there mga 45 minutes siguro? That's including the time we spent listening to the audio presentation na but still, the presentation was not long to begin with.

In the end, I finally decided on the Symphony pillow as this one is perfect for back and side sleeping alike. Double purpose na siya. Sonata kasi is good for side-sleeping lang. I mean, obviously, wala namang kaso yun if you use Sonata while lying on your back diba, coz alangan namang magpalit ka pa ng unan habang natutulog. Yung level of comfort lang siguro that you'll get would be different. But if I were to buy my next Tempur pillow, I'd definitely get Sonata.

Thanks for another early Christmas gift, Honey!! :)

I really love buying for the home! I get a kick thinking of the time when Mon and I will finally move to our own place. I bet we'll have so much fun shopping and decorating! Well, I'll have fun for sure. I think Mon would leave me in-charge as long as I furnish our living room with state-of-the-art surround speakers. That's all he asks.

What's cooking?

Because it's work night, I've no energy to whip up something better than canned sardines. I've occasionally been craving for spicy sardines and those cravings were perennially unmet so you can just imagine my delight to finally eat this!

And because I still have a pack of misua left over in the fridge, I decided to put some in! Flavor it with some salt and pepper and voila!

I loved the taste I ate so much! Mon found it a tad bit spicy but he ate a hearty serving nonetheless. I vowed to use regular flavored sardines next time. Mon can't stand spicy food. He's more inclined to eat sweet food or sour food, or salty food... anything but spicy! Which makes me wonder, how can we be so alike in so many things yet so different in our food preferences? I can only guess.

Sunday is chores day

I am very happy to announce that today was a very productive day for me! I was able to cook lunch adobo!, sweep the floor in our room and living and dining areas, iron my work clothes, and cook soup for merienda! Mon and I also went out to visit some home stores and bought a chopping board and a small frying pan.

I am so happy with my cooking because finally, success na ang adobo ko! I swear, this is the first time I cooked adobo na ang lambot ng meat at tamang tama ang lasa. Well, the taste of my previous adobos are fine naman except that I just used Mama Sita's and nothing else. So in short, "cheat" siya. My adobo earlier is still "cheat" kasi I still used Mama Sita's to marinate the meat but I tweaked the taste a bit while cooking by adding whole pepper, laurel leaves, soy sauce, and vinegar. That has to count, right?
