I don't know about you but I love desserts. Somehow, my meals just ain't complete without it. Whether it's a big slice of cake or just a teeny tiny chocnut, I have to have something sweet to "close" every meal. That's how much of a dessert lover I am.
So when I was invited to try Love Desserts' newly opened branch in Fairview (thanks, Kathy!), of course I couldn't say no! Ok, so it's a little bit far from where I live but it's super accessible with just one FX ride. I journeyed through the long stretch of Commonwealth Avenue to Pearl Drive Commercial Center for a whole afternoon of sweet, sugary goodness with two other bloggers, Yvonne and Melanie.
Once at Pearl Drive, Love Desserts won't be hard to miss as it is located almost right smack in the middle of the upper floor of the building. Especially if you got there at around 3:30pm, just find the only store with a crowd outside and you're sure to have found the place.
The interior of Love Desserts is very cozy and relaxed with a shabby chic vibe. The walls are tastefully decorated but not overdone. It is pretty but not intimidating. I say it's the perfect place for young people to hangout in.
One of the walls is decorated with faux windows and an interesting mural, which gives out a homey vibe.
To balance it out, the other side is decorated simply with elegant frames lining the wall.
And then at the back portion of the room is a brick wall, which I guess serves as an accent wall to add a little bit of contrast to the place.
The dessert buffet is located in the middle of the room in one long stretch. You can order a la carte or you can avail of the unlimited desserts buffet for only 199 pesos. I say that's a good price for a taste of everything that's in that table.
I admit, one look at the dessert buffet and I felt a tad bit overwhelmed. Every dessert imaginable is right before my very eyes, waiting to be devoured. LOL! Devoured talaga? I mean, I honestly did not know where to begin. There were round cakes, roll cakes, assorted pastries, eclairs, pies, macaroons, small cookies, big cookies, and sylvannas. They even have those little thingies on shotglasses, whatever it was called.
One minor thing, I wish the desserts had labels on them instead of just... placed there, ya know? It would have been nice to know the names of what we were eating. Honestly, there were sweets I was hesitant to try because I didn't know what it was. I mean, what if I'm allergic to nuts and the dessert has nuts inside?
I got thirsty after our first round of sweets so I ordered milk tea. The tea component of the drink is a little stronger than usual, which I really really like. The pearls however is not as chewy as I would have wanted it to but the milk tea itself tastes very good.
To break the sweets, I got some tuna macaroni salad, which I super love, much to my surprise. You see, I don't really like fish very much. But like I mentioned earlier, the desserts didn't have labels on them so I was surprised when I tasted it that it was tuna! I love that it didn't overwhelm my mouth with flavor. It's actually the perfect dish in preparation for the next round of sweets.
Another not-so-sweet dish which I think is more enjoyable to younger people is the cheesy nachos.
I ordered my all-time favorite: banana crepe with chocolate syrup and chocolate chip toppings. It's my favorite because, well, you really can't go wrong with banana, chocolate syrup, and chocolate chips. Even if you overdo any one of those, it will still turn out delish!
To cater to people who enjoy cooler desserts, they also have halo-halo, ice cream, and fruit salad. We live in a tropical country after all. Cold desserts are absolute hits all year round! I had a scoop of chocolate ice cream to cap my sweets off. I would have tried the calamansi sherbet flavor after but I decided I had enough sweets for the day.
But what if you don't like sweets at all? Let's say you have a girlfriend who likes sweets and wants to try out this place and you just can't say no to her? Well fear not, because Love Desserts doesn't only serve desserts, they serve rice meals too! A little limited on the choices, but the selection are tried and tested, mostly breakfast viands like tocino, bangus, beef tapa, and longganisa, priced at 150-160 pesos each. Or if you want something lighter, you can have sandwiches instead. They have chicken, frankfurter, ham and egg, tuna, and kani mango salad sandwich priced at 95 pesos each.
One dish that I absolutely recommend that you try is Dynamite. Basically, this is a cheese stick inside a finger chili also known as "siling haba" in Tagalog. I've tried a spicier version of this before but Love Desserts' version ain't bad at all! This is perfect for those people who doesn't like spicy food yet wanna see what the hype is about.
I was so ecstatic when I found out that they serve this because I didn't know any restaurants that carry this dish on their menu. The one I've tasted before was homemade by a friend's friend.
In the middle of our meal, we got startled by a sudden commotion beside our table. It's that young girl's birthday! Awww!! Apparently, this restaurant greets birthday celebrants with a slice of cake! Hmm. I wonder if they could have done this differently? I mean, the restaurant's concept is desserts, so why not give celebrants a sandwich for a change? Haha! Kidding. But why not, 'no? Kahit Dynamite lang para not so expensive. ;)
By the time we finished our food, every table and chair inside and outside Love Desserts is occupied with people. May waiting pa sa labas!
I didn't try all the sweets but I did taste some of them. And in all honesty, in terms of taste, I have to say that it's a hit or miss. Some desserts I liked, some I didn't like. It all depends on a person's palate. While I generally consider myself to have a sweet tooth, I don't really like desserts that are overly sweet because it tends to give me sugar rush. But I don't like desserts that are too bland either. I mean, nagdessert ka pa, diba?
Service is good. The crew was quite attentive whenever we request for anything. Ms. Emily, the branch manager, is very accommodating and gracious to us too. She occasionally visits our table to offer us drinks and to ask if we have any requests.
I think this restaurant is worth trying. I mean, unlidesserts for Php199? It's definitely a steal!
